  1. ….if that were something to do with cigarettes, I could go with it. But heart disease is so pervasive, with many possible causes, many of them hereditary. And it isn’t as simple as writing a cheque to The Heart and Stroke Foundation, or quitting some kind of singularly responsible behaviour. I had to bury a man at 45 who simply collapsed while coaching soccer. His daughters and wife were in Scotland visiting family and returned to that news. Truly, I wouldn’t want them even now–even 30 years on–to be watching TV, and suddenly find this. It is a play on the emotions in order to elicit funds, and it isn’t being responsible, IMO.

    • Good point, Lance. I recognized the playing on emotion and that’s why I liked it. I liked the storytelling aspect: I’m always curious how someone pulls me in and this did that masterfully. Of course, most pleas for charity funding play on emotions, so this is not unusual. And…yet…heart disease is still a killer. Though, yes, multifactorial, as you say: all kinds of things cause it. Actually your point brings up a disconnect for me at the end: what to do? Write a check? Stop snacking on bacon? Now I recognize it as a sad scene (which I sorta liked) but with a personal disconnect. Thanks for your comment.
